Kicillof Suspends Political Event Amid Violence

The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, has been considering advancing the elections in his province in relation to the national ones. However, he has waited for clarity on the national electoral calendar situation. On Thursday, the Chamber of Deputies approved a project to suspend this year's PASO, and now the Senate must complete this task.

Despite the criticism from the Kirchnerism, the Axelism views this decision favorably as it would pave the way for a possible electoral splitting that would allow the governor to focus the campaign on his figure, distancing himself from the national contest in October.

In the midst of violent incidents in the province that have generated tensions regarding security management, Kicillof suspended a scheduled event in Mar del Plata with mayors and affiliate leaders. This measure was taken after the death of Matías Paredes at the hands of the Buenos Aires Police during a shootout in the coastal city.

"It's for a human issue. What happened is very sad, and we must be deeply respectful," government sources justified, while the Minister of Government, Carlos Bianco, confirmed the suspension, which does not yet have a new date.

Kicillof's government has been criticized for a series of violent incidents that have cast doubt on security policies. Incidents such as the murder of kiosk worker Cristian Velázquez in Mar del Plata, and the murders of Lucas Aguilera in Moreno, as well as the teenagers Paloma Gallardo and Josués Salvatierra in Florencio Varela, have generated shock and criticism.

In light of this situation, the smaller Cabinet table convinced Kicillof that it was not advisable to hold a political event during a crisis. The event, scheduled in Mar del Plata with the slogan "La 5ta con Axel", was canceled, raising concerns among mayors who were expecting some pronouncement in favor of electoral splitting.

For now, the announcement regarding the electoral splitting will have to wait, while Kicillof's government faces challenges in security matters and criticism from the opposition.
